Stacey Bendet's Alice+Olivia presented its Fall 2017 collection in a presentation format.
Inspired by "The Enchantress of Florence," a novel by British author Salman Rushdie, born in Bombay, India, the collection depicts a woman carving out her own destiny in a male-dominated world, set against the lush backdrop of the Mughal Empire and blending the romanticism of Florentine Renaissance.
At the presentation venue, New York-based body paint artist Trina Merry performed a live painting session, creating a lyrical space that superimposed the brand's worldview with the imagery of the novel.
Bendet's vision of the woman was evident in several looks. Glamorous pieces, ranging from feminine dresses in sequins, lace, and silk to voluminous fur jackets in peacock and leopard prints, evoked a woman full of confidence. The collection featured utilitarian separates in vibrant colors and exotic embroidered mini dresses. A look featuring a bell-sleeve top paired with a skirt printed with a Renaissance-style painting created a dramatic mood, creating a striking impression. The familiar iconic face motif appeared on fur jackets, dresses, and mini bags. Furthermore, the collection also featured menswear-inspired pieces such as patent leather bomber jackets and camouflage-patterned hoodie jackets, presenting a rich and varied lineup. The brand's signature statement jackets bore powerful messages for modern women, such as "Queen" and "Be the Change You Wish to See in the World."
