Keisuke Yoshida presented his 2017-18 Fall/Winter collection at Shibuya Hikarie on March 24th during Amazon Fashion Week TOKYO 2017 A/W. Keisuke Yoshida was selected for "FASHION PORT NEW EAST," a project aimed at promoting young designers to the world. As a promising young designer, the show was presented in front of a large crowd of young people aspiring to work in the fashion industry. Inspired by fashion photographs from the 1960s, the runway showcased Keisuke Yoshida's signature futuristic uniform look, reminiscent of school uniforms and athletic wear. The collection evoked a nostalgic atmosphere with items like a hoodie with a zipped-up sailor collar, jersey pants with zip-up hems, and navy and plaid jumper skirts. However, the models wearing the collection had stiff, robotic expressions, and their hair and makeup looked noticeably artificially styled. Regarding this aim, Yoshida commented, "I wanted to create a human figure that resembled a robot seeking emotions. The hair and makeup portrayed a cold, robotic future, and the way clothing created a softer appearance." The glitter platform shoes adorning all the models' feet also reflected this intention. Yoshida was inspired by the cheerfulness and vibrant aura of young women seen in fashion photographs taken 60 years ago, and pondered how to convey that in a contemporary setting 50 years later. By capturing and sublimating the "energy of creating a bright future" inherent in fashion at the time, she arrived at the idea of showcasing the "brightness of dressing freely." "I cherished the feeling I had when I first fell in love with fashion in junior high school—the feeling of being able to dress freely and still feel good, even if I made a mistake—in this show," Yoshida said. Yoshida's attempt to pursue the "fun of exploring one's own style" using uniforms, a symbol of youth, must have been an inspiration to the young aspiring creators at the venue.
