UNDERCOVER designer Jun Takahashi was selected as the Grand Prize winner of the 2013 (31st) Mainichi Fashion Awards. Takahashi won the Newcomer Award and Shiseido Encouragement Award in 1997 and the Grand Prize in 2001, making this his second Grand Prize win. He is the fourth person to win the Grand Prize multiple times, following Rei Kawakubo, Issey Miyake, and Yohji Yamamoto. The Newcomer Award and Shiseido Encouragement Award went to FACETASM designer Hiromichi Ochiai, while the Kujiraoka Amiko Award, given to those who have made outstanding contributions to the fashion industry, went to photographer Kazuo Oishi, who photographed collections around the world, including the Paris Collection, and contributed to raising the profile of Japanese fashion photographers, and the late Kazuyuki Yamamuro, producer of Fashion Tsushin and editor-in-chief of WWD. The Topic Award went to Toray's "Silk 50th Anniversary," and the Special Award went to BAO BAO ISSEY MIYAKE and Eiji Miyamoto, director of the Culture and Fashion Textile Research Institute. Takahashi, who received the Grand Prize, said at the award ceremony, "I am honored to receive this award in this milestone year, marking 10 years since the Paris Collection, 20 years since the Tokyo Collection, and 25 years since the launch of the Undercover brand. I will continue to share my unique creations with the world." Ochiai added, "I will continue to work hard to become a brand that can compete on the world stage." Oishi said, "In the early 1980s, I experienced racism and harassment, but at my final Paris Collection show in 2010, photographers from all over the world opened the middle of their seats, and I was moved to tears. I am glad to receive the Kujiraoka Amiko Award and have continued to do so." Yamamuro's wife, Emiko, who attended on his behalf, said, "I am grateful to receive this award, which marks the end of my life."

Furthermore, Bao Bao Issey Miyake designer Hikaru Matsumura said, "I want to create products that will be used by as many people as possible," and Miyamoto expressed his joy by saying, "I see this award as encouragement to help revitalize fashion through textile education and research."
