Fashion designer John Galliano was born on November 28, 1960, in Gibraltar, a British territory. He enrolled in the textile department at Central Saint Martins, later changing his major to fashion. He graduated at the top of his class in 1984. His graduation collection was displayed in the window of the London select shop Browns, where it was well-received, leading to a five-year contract with the brand. He made his London Collection debut in 1985, where his bias-cut dresses and custom-made suits were highly praised. In 1995, he was appointed designer for Givenchy, where he worked on two seasons' collections. In 1996, he succeeded Gianfranco Ferre as designer at Christian Dior, where he was in charge of the ready-to-wear department for 15 years. In 2009, he was awarded the Legion of Honor in recognition of his achievements.
In February 2011, he was arrested by police for making racist remarks, which led to him being fired from his position as designer of Dior and his own brand, and he was also convicted. In May 2013, he was scheduled to appear as a lecturer at Parsons The New School for Design in New York, but canceled the appearance. It has been reported that he has been frequenting Oscar de la Renta's atelier, but there is still no indication of when he will return.
