"Ark Hills Christmas 2016 ~LIGHT of MAGIC~" will be held at Ark Karajan Place in Ark Hills, Akasaka, Tokyo, from November 17th to December 25th.
This year's "Ark Hills Christmas" will feature a unique illumination display created through a collaboration between Mirrorballer, an art group that creates works using mirror balls, and TechShop Tokyo, a members-only DIY workshop that opened at Ark Hills this spring. Using original film and mirror balls produced at TechShop Tokyo, a Christmas tree and two types of objects were created that change color and shine depending on the angle and height from which they are viewed.
The tree that will appear in the center of Ark Karajan Place is made up of parts covered in polarized film, and 30 mirror balls are installed inside. The mirror balls inside illuminate the film, creating layers of color through the reflection of light and shadows, resulting in a charming and warm tree that looks different every time you look at it.

In addition, crystal-shaped objects, each with a different light pattern, will be installed in the codley in the center of ARK Karajan Place. Similar objects will also be installed in front of the waterfall in the square, and between them will be an object resembling a lotus flower floating on the water's edge, set in a diamond-shaped frame approximately 3.3 meters high. Like the tree, it is made using polarized film and mirror balls, and when viewed together with the two crystal-shaped objects installed to the side, it gives the feeling of peering into jewels or crystals. The lights will be turned on one hour earlier than last year, starting at 4:00 PM.
