Marni's Christmas "HAPPY BIRDS" project features Frida Kahlo and Georgia O'Keeffe in bird art

Nov 3, 2016

In late November, MARNI will launch a limited-edition collection featuring colorful birds inspired by leading female artists of the last century. Proceeds will be donated to the Vimala Association, which supports refugee camps in India.

The "MARNI HAPPY BIRDS" project features a limited-edition collection inspired by the art world. Five leading female artists of the last century are each depicted with a wry bird illustration. The colorful birds are hand-painted in the limited-edition collection in partnership with Colombian artisans.

Carol Lama (37,800 yen) is transformed into a bird with an unusual crest, like a ray of sunlight shining through a cloudy sky, while Frida Kahlo (31,200 yen) is transformed into a cormorant with a large beak. Georgia O'Keeffe (31,200 yen) is depicted as a heron, Alice Neel (31,200 yen) as a small bird looking up at the sky, and Louise Bourgeois (31,200 yen) as a queen.

The collection will also be sold at pop-up shops that will be open from December 7th to 13th at The Stage #3 on the 3rd floor of Isetan Shinjuku Main Building and at Global Message on the 4th floor of Ginza Mitsukoshi. Proceeds from this project will be donated to the Vimala Association, which supports refugee camps in India.
