A four-leaf clover stool that brings happiness. The debut of the new furniture brand "Taiyou and Sea" by Mikya Kobayashi

Nov 15, 2016

Mikiya Kobayashi, one of the leading designers of the next generation in Japanese design, has launched his first line of furniture, "Taiyou & C.", exclusively made in Japan.

The relationship between humans and the sun, which is often overlooked but essential to human life, is similar to the ideal relationship between furniture and humans. "Taiyou & C." is a new furniture brand founded by Mikiya Kobayashi, based on the desire to be a presence that unobtrusively supports people's daily activities from behind the scenes. This first wave of furniture, consisting of two chairs by Mikiya Kobayashi and Jin Kuramoto, one stool by Richard Hatten, and one table by Mikiya Kobayashi, was unveiled in Tokyo in November 2016.

The "ROUND" chair, embodying the spirit of "Taiyou & C.", features a circular top rail, a functional design that supports the back at a low position while also providing armrests. Its perfectly round seat allows for natural sitting in any position. Thanks to its compactness and light weight, it can be stacked up to seven chairs.

KEYSTONE is a chair with a circular seat, legs that open forward and backward, and arms and a back that surround them. The name comes from the "key" (perhaps a pivot point) that supports the entire chair at one point. Surprisingly, despite its unique shape, it is also designed to be stackable.

CLOVER, a stacking stool with a clover-shaped seat, comes in two varieties: the three-leaf (3-legged) "CLOVER3" and the four-leaf (4-legged) "CLOVER4." Line up several three-legged and four-legged stools and you'll feel as lucky as if you've found a clover in a field. Both are also available in low-height versions for children.

The table "HORIZON" has a light design that makes the tabletop appear to be floating. The slit in the center is designed to accommodate the cords of office equipment, and is thought to match the chairs and stools being launched this time. It comes in six sizes ranging from 1400 to 2400mm, and can also be customized to fit specific sizes.
