"TAIYOU no SHITA," an interior design shop created by designer Mikya Kobayashi, has relocated from Meguro, Tokyo, to the 6th floor of Living Design Center OZONE in Shinjuku. The address is Shinjuku Park Tower, 3-7-1 Nishi-Shinjuku, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo.
The store was born from a desire to go beyond studio design work and create connections with users. It offers carefully crafted furniture and interior products developed in collaboration with domestic and international manufacturers, with a focus on the user's lifestyle.
The lineup also includes beautiful and functional furniture brimming with craftsmanship, everyday wooden items such as clocks and flower vases that make great gifts, antique Scandinavian tableware, and works by artists. "Yamanami," a furniture brand by Asahikawa furniture manufacturer Takumi Kogei, is characterized by its soft forms that exude craftsmanship and the warmth of artisanal hands. "HARU," a furniture brand by Aichi furniture manufacturer Karimoku Furniture, features light and beautiful forms. "chii," a small furniture brand created by Toyama-based "usuiworks" using OSB (structural board), is appealing for its texture and compact scale, which fills the gaps between existing furniture and the space. Other products on offer include "kime," a brand of wooden household items created by Asahikawa-based craft product manufacturer "Dreamy Person." Custom-made kitchens, storage furniture, and space designs are also available. Customers can enjoy a conversation with Mr. Kobayashi, who is at the storefront, as they place their orders. The adjacent space, "DINING ROOM by MIKIYA KOBAYASHI," showcases tableware that complements the dining space. Periodic exhibitions are also held in collaboration with various designers and manufacturers. Currently, the exhibition is titled "Glass Artist Kohei Kishimoto," and features tableware and lighting fixtures by Toyama-based glass artists (until May 24th). Plans are in place for future special exhibitions and workshops that convey the background behind craftsmanship.
The store name comes from the relationship between the sun and living things. Furniture is essential for life, but the ideal is for it to be like the sun, naturally coexisting with people and their lives. Furniture that you spend a long time with. Come to "TAIYOU no SHITA" to find your own favorite piece.
