Casio Computer Co., Ltd. will release the AWM-500D/AWM-500GD, part of the "G-SHOCK" shock-resistant watch series, on November 20th. These models inherit the design of the "AW-500," "G-SHOCK's" first analog-digital combination model, released in 1989, while incorporating a full metal case.

Since the release of the first model in 1983, "G-SHOCK" had only offered square models with digital displays. The "AW-500," released in 1989, was a new initiative for "G-SHOCK," developed with the concept of "an analog watch whose hands would never fall off." Overturning the conventional notion that analog watches are vulnerable to shocks due to their many small parts, such as hands and gears, the company has created the analog-digital combination "G-SHOCK," which features lighter components for improved shock resistance.

The new "AWM-500D/AWM-500GD" are radio-controlled, solar-powered models built entirely in metal while retaining the same form as the "AW-500." Applying technology developed during the development of the "GMW-B5000D" (2018), which recreated the original "G-SHOCK" shape in full metal, the full metal construction is achieved by incorporating fine resin as a buffer between the metal case and bezel. The rounded links of the band, which connect to the case, recreate the sleek form of the "AW-500." Furthermore, the bezel's surface is carefully tailored to each part, using finishes such as hairline and mirror finishes, to fully showcase the texture of the metal.

We are also pleased to announce the November 20th release of the resin reproduction models AW-500E/AW-500BB, which have been redesigned based on the paper drawings of the time. In addition to a model that stays true to the original, featuring a black base with white indexes and minute hand and a red hour hand, the lineup includes three models, all black and red, that offer a new, modern twist on the AW-500.

◆AWM-500D-1A 66,000 yen (tax included)

◆AWM-500D-1A8 66,000 yen (tax included)
