Yamamotoyama Co., Ltd. will begin offering "Chakakou," an afternoon tea made with green tea and seaweed, at its flagship store, Yamamotoyama Fujie Sabo, in Nihonbashi, Tokyo, from October 1st.

Yamamotoyama Fujie Sabo is a teahouse specializing in Japanese tea that opened on September 25th, 2018, in the original site of Yamamotoyama, with the concept of "a teahouse where you can intuitively experience the charm of tea and seaweed." As "Japan's oldest tea merchant," Yamamotoyama offers the finest Japanese tea carefully selected from all over the country, served in the best condition. The cafe also offers "seaweed-themed dishes" using high-quality nori seaweed from the Ariake Sea, as well as tea-themed sweets.

■ Afternoon tea that combines tea and seaweed in a new way
Yamamotoyama's afternoon tea, "Chagashiko," features dishes using tea and seaweed. The menu includes Yamamotoyama's original tea and seaweed dishes, such as "Matcha Warabimochi" made with Yamamotoyama's "Jokisen Matcha," "Sencha Cookies" made with powdered tea, and "Nori Mitarashi Dango" (Seaweed Mitarashi Dango), topped with a homemade sauce made by soaking Yamamotoyama's roasted nori seaweed in soy sauce.

■ Afternoon tea prepared so as not to impair the delicate flavor of the tea and seaweed
Tea and seaweed are delicate. When cooking them as ingredients, care must be taken to ensure the heating temperature is correct, otherwise the elegant taste and aroma of the tea and seaweed will be lost. The kitchen staff at Yamamotoyama Fujie Sabo, who are experts on tea and seaweed, have developed a menu that makes the most of the characteristics of each tea leaf and seaweed used. Although the form may change, you can experience the same unchanging flavor of tea and seaweed.

■ A relaxing tea time that evokes the richness of everyday life
The name "Chagashiko" (tea and sweets exchange) embodies the meaning of "family, friends, and acquaintances gathering over tea and sweets to exchange information and deepen friendships." The interior space of Yamamotoyama Fujie Sabo is designed to enable customers to enjoy high-quality tea to the fullest. With natural light gently pouring into the all-glass, high-ceilinged store, and a quiet interior space where you can almost hear the sound of the hot water being poured, you'll feel like you're in another world, even though the store faces the main street of Nihonbashi, where businesspeople and shoppers alike come and go.

In a space made for the enjoyment of tea, enjoy our afternoon tea, "Chagashiko," which presents tea and seaweed in a new way, and spend a relaxing moment away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
