Gucci will host "Gucci Bamboo Summer," an experiential event featuring the Gucci Bamboo 1947 handbag, in Omotesando from August 10th to 25th.

Bamboo handles, crafted by heating bamboo into beautiful curves, have embodied Gucci's innovative creativity and craftsmanship since they were first attached to a Gucci leather handbag in 1947. The timeless sophistication of the Gucci Bamboo 1947 line, characterized by its bamboo handle, remains a central feature of Gucci's Signature handbag collection, demonstrating the creativity, combined with exceptional craftsmanship, that has made Gucci one of the world's leading luxury brands.

For several years, Gucci has been developing projects that combine the appeal of the bamboo handle and the iconic Gucci Bamboo 1947 handbag with Japanese traditions and culture. In 2021, Gucci held the experiential exhibition "Gucci Bamboo House" in Kyoto. In 2022, to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the bamboo handle bag, Gucci produced the short film "Kaguya by Gucci," a modern retelling of "The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter," said to be Japan's oldest story, and released it online worldwide. This year, Gucci will host Gucci Bamboo Summer, an event offering exclusive installation, shopping, and dining experiences at three locations along Omotesando.

The main venue for this immersive experience will be Omotesando Hills. A lush green bamboo forest will emerge from the atrium staircase, with approximately 1,000 bamboo plants providing a pleasant coolness in midsummer Tokyo. Lanterns reminiscent of a summer festival will lead visitors to the installation entrance. Beyond this, visitors will enter an immersive world that feels like they've landed on the moon. They will enjoy a variety of installations that explore the appeal of Gucci's iconic bamboo handle bags.

The venue's theater corner will screen the music video for "Shadow Dance," a new song by MONDO GROSSO and Hikari Mitsushima, who played Kaguya in last year's "Kaguya by Gucci." The beautiful and mystical creations, set in bamboo forests and the moon, were inspired by the world of Gucci Bamboo Summer.

The second location, Gucci Aoyama, will offer an exclusive shopping experience featuring the Gucci Bamboo 1947 handbag and a wide selection of items featuring bamboo detailing, as well as one-of-a-kind vintage handbags meticulously restored by artisans from Gucci's experimental online concept store, Vault.

The third venue will be "Gucci Osteria for Bamboo Summer at The Strings," created by Gucci Osteria da Massimo Bottura Tokyo, which was awarded one star in the Michelin Guide Tokyo 2023 last year. Head chef Antonio Iacoviello will offer a special menu that combines seasonal Japanese ingredients with traditional Italian cuisine and the world of Gucci Bamboo Summer in unexpected ways. During the day, they will be serving summer sweets such as original shaved ice and a mini version of their signature dish, the Emilia Burger, while at dinnertime they will be serving a mini course inspired by this event.
