On April 26th, the reconstruction of the flagship store of Yoshiike Grocery, a long-established retailer founded in 1920 in Ueno, Tokyo, will be completed and the building will have its grand opening as the Okachimachi Yoshiike Main Store Building. This joint venture between Yoshiike and Mitsui Fudosan will see the renovation.
Yoshiike Grocery will be renovated into Yoshiike Shokudo, a new multi-purpose establishment offering fresh fish, groceries, alcohol, and general merchandise, as well as Japanese cuisine, sushi, and aquaculture. Eleven other stores will open, including a globally popular UNIQLO store following its Ikebukuro location, a large GU store in the city center, Yuzawaya, a specialty store for crafts and hobby supplies, and Cochon d'Or Kamiya, a new bistro-style restaurant by the long-established Western restaurant Kamiya.
The area is close to JR and Toei Oedo Line stations and Ameya Yokocho, one of Japan's leading shopping streets. Development of large commercial facilities, offices, and hotels is underway through 2017. The Okachimachi Yoshiike Main Store Building aims to become a new landmark. The Yoshiike grocery store will close on April 19th and will open in the building on the 23rd.
