A new dining complex has been completed on the site of the former Ueno Shochiku department store, becoming a new face of Ueno Park

Mar 14, 2014

On April 26th, the Ueno Mori Sakura Terrace, a comprehensive dining and beverage complex, will open on the site of the Ueno Shochiku Department Store, which closed in 2012 and is currently undergoing reconstruction. Ueno Mori Sakura Terrace will replace the Ueno Shochiku Department Store, a beloved shopping destination in front of Ueno Station and Ueno Park for over half a century, retaining traces of the Showa and postwar eras. The new complex will feature a central atrium with an escalator connecting JR Ueno Station's Shinobazu Exit to the park, serving as a gateway to the park. An open space will be set up on the rooftop facing the park. The newly renovated Ueno Bamboo Garden and UENO3153 (Saigo-san) will flank the building, creating a new landscape in front of Ueno Station and at the entrance to Ueno Park.

The building will house 19 Japanese, Western and Chinese restaurants. The total floor area is 3,785.66 square meters.
