The Mori Arts Center Gallery in Roppongi, Tokyo, has announced the addition of 11 new artists to its "The Doraemon Exhibition Tokyo 2017," which will run from November 1 to January 8, 2018. Based on the theme of the "Doraemon" film series, the 11 participating artists will create "Your Doraemon" artworks using a variety of media, including painting, sculpture, digital installation, and chalkboard art, based on all 37 beloved films, dating back to the 1980 release of "Doraemon: Nobita's Dinosaur." The additional participating artists are Ryouta Kuwakubo, Akinori Goto, Tomomi Kondo, Tomoyoshi Sakamoto, Shin Yamazaki, Ai Shinohara, Yuta Nakazato, Midori Nakatsuka, Hideki Yamaguchi + Wataru Ito, Ryuki Yamamoto, and Rena Rena. The remaining two artists will be announced in July. Additionally, production reports from the first wave of participating artists were also released. Among the 15 artists, artist Tomoko Konoike explores the origins of the imagination behind the Doraemon manga, using Shizuka's mysterious motifs to paint on sewn cowhide, creating a cave of leather reminiscent of the Lascaux murals. She will also be screening a new video of her singing Doraemon songs on a snowy mountain. Artist Masaharu Sato is currently creating a video piece depicting Doraemon searching for the "future" in modern-day Tokyo, filming a Doraemon costume walking around Tokyo, then animating and overlaying the animated footage with live-action footage. And contemporary artist Yasuyuki Nishio is currently creating a sculpture featuring the familiar Doraemon on the front, but with a mechanically sculpted representation of Doraemon's internal structure on the back.
