"THE Doraemon Exhibition TOKYO 2017" will be held from November 1st to 8th at the Mori Arts Center Gallery in Roppongi, Tokyo.
Since its creation in 1970, Doraemon has brought dreams to countless people across Japan. Many artists, from small children to the world, have had their dreams expanded by encountering Doraemon.
What would happen if these artists were to express their feelings about Doraemon through art? 15 artists and groups who resonated with the concept of "Make your own Doraemon" have come together to create new, one-of-a-kind artworks, each filled with their own unique thoughts.
The participating artists this time include 15 artists who also exhibited at "THE Doraemon Exhibition" in 2002, including Mika Ninagawa, Miran Fukuda, Takashi Murakami, and Yasumasa Morimura (in collaboration with Junko Koike), as well as Makoto Aida, Kayo Ume, Motohiko Odani, Tomoko Konoike, Masaharu Sato, Kotobuki Shiriagari, Yasuyuki Nishio, Kumi Machida, Mr., Akira Yamaguchi, and Nozomi Watanabe, with more artists expected to participate.
The exhibition will be supervised by Yuji Yamashita, a professor at Meiji Gakuin University and an art historian.
