"Reminiscences of a Journey to Lithuania," directed by Jonas Mekas, a pioneer of American experimental film, will be screened for two days only.

Jul 12, 2016

"Reminiscences of a Journey to Lithuania," directed by Jonas Mekas, a leading figure in American experimental film and Lithuanian-language poet, will be screened for two days only, on July 16th and 17th, in the auditorium on the first basement floor of the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo.

This screening is part of the "Voice No Ma: Yoshimasu Gozo, a Whole-Body Poet," an exhibition by Yoshimasu Gozo running until August 7th in the special exhibition gallery on the first floor of the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo. The exhibition showcases the nearly 50-year history of Yoshimasu Gozo, a poet who continues to evolve at the age of 77. The exhibition features hundreds of handwritten manuscripts, such as "Kaibutsu-kun," a drawing-like work he continued to write after the Great East Japan Earthquake, as well as video, photography, and objects, showcasing the diverse works that go beyond the category of "poet."

As a related event, a two-day limited screening of the film "Reminiscences of a Journey to Lithuania," which has not yet been released on DVD, will be held. This screening was made possible because Jonas Mekas is a close friend of Yoshimasu Gozo. The screenings will start at 2pm on both days, and after the screening on the 16th, there will be an after-talk by Yoshimasu Gozo. Numbered tickets will be distributed to the first 140 people at the reception on the first floor from 10am on the day.
