The first Kanazawa 21st Century Craft Festival, a large-scale festival to discover and promote the appeal of crafts, will be held

Jul 26, 2016

Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture, a UNESCO Creative City of Crafts, will host its first large-scale festival, the "Kanazawa 21st Century Craft Festival," from October 13 to February 25, 2017, to discover and promote the appeal of crafts. Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture, has been a center of arts and culture since the feudal era. This event brings together craft events previously held individually within the city, further enhancing and broadening the appeal of Kanazawa's crafts and the city's appeal. During the festival, workshops, exhibitions, and other events will be held throughout the city. One of these, the "Kanazawa Mirai Tea Ceremony," is unique to Kanazawa, where the tea ceremony culture is deeply rooted. Tea ceremonies will be held under two themes—"traditional" and "contemporary," with each host creating their own unique interpretation of the tea ceremony. At "Shuzen Shokusai," directors with a deep knowledge of the city of Kanazawa have coordinated craft artists, cuisine, and space with their own unique sensibilities, creating a premium experience that engages all five senses.

Other events planned include "Crafts Corridor," an exhibition event held in three areas of the city where visitors can interact with artists and gallerists; "Kanazawa Art Space Link," an exhibition event linking galleries and art spaces; and "Kanazawa Mirai Craft Club," which will hold workshops open to a wide range of participants, from children to adults.
