"Aperto 04 Nerhol Promenade," the fourth in a series of exhibitions by emerging artists, will be held from May 21 to August 28 in the Long-Term Installation Room of the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture, featuring artist duo Nerhol, who have explored the intersection of photography and sculpture. Nerhol is comprised of sculptor Ryuta Iida, who has worked on sculptural works using paper and printed materials, and graphic designer Yoshihisa Tanaka, who has worked with two-dimensional and visual information. The duo's engagement with paper, a material consumed in large quantities every day, from different angles—material and image—has resulted in a number of works that leave a striking impression on the viewer, featuring vivid forms with a unique three-dimensional quality. This exhibition treats the entire museum as a space for strolling, showcasing new works that reveal a variety of different expressions depending on the viewing angle and distance. The exhibition will include a new series called "multiple - roadside tree," in which street trees were sliced into small slices and each photograph was enlarged, bundled, and engraved, as well as new works made with mirrored paper.
In addition, as a related event, a special talk between the Nerhol duo and Hoshino Futoshi, a lecturer at Kanazawa College of Art, will be held from 4:00 to 5:30 pm on May 21st, and the exhibition catalogue "Promenade" is scheduled to be released in June.
