Two new stores, a rice ball stand and a chiffon toast specialty store, will open at Laforet Harajuku!

Jul 27, 2016

On September 30th, the first locations of onigiri stand Gyu!, a new onigiri specialty store that overturns conventional wisdom about onigiri, and LAST CHIFFON, a chiffon toast specialty store, will open simultaneously in the "GOOD MEAL MARKET" food area on the second floor of Laforet Harajuku.

Onigiri stand Gyu! is a specialty onigiri store produced entirely by the Onigiri Association. In addition to traditional onigiri, they will propose groundbreaking new styles of onigiri, such as "sweet onigiri" and "ultra-luxury onigiri." The menu is based on the traditional Japanese meal style of "ichiju-ichisai," which is healthy and nutritionally balanced, and adds innovative Harajuku elements to the traditional combination of a staple food (onigiri), soup (miso soup), and side dish (pickles). The lineup includes bite-sized rice balls called "Onigiri Petit" (300 yen), which combine classic ingredients with unique ones like coriander and matcha to create a global flavor; "Traditional Onigiri" (from 150 yen), which combine popular classics like salmon and plum with nutritionally balanced salad rice balls made with brown rice and ultra-luxury rice balls made with carefully selected ingredients, all traditional in shape but with original flavors and combinations. The miso soup menu changes daily using carefully selected miso, and is also available in a takeout style, where you pour hot water into a cup after serving. They also plan to offer "Japanese vegetable pickles" as a new alternative to pickles. Last Chiffon is a specialty store that specializes in chiffon cakes that can be eaten easily like a hot dog, without the need for a knife or fork. The chiffon dough is baked four at a time in the shop's kitchen, multiple times a day, ensuring freshness. Enjoy a variety of textures, from the fluffy texture of chiffon cake to the crispy texture of toast to the moist texture of French toast. Each item is also made with carefully selected ingredients, including pure Canadian maple syrup and rice oil. Menu items include the "Chiffon Toast with Maple Syrup" (390 yen), which is toasted in a toaster oven with a generous spread of butter, resulting in a moist and crispy exterior and a piping hot interior; the "Chocolate Chiffon Toast with Caramel Banana and Fresh Cream" (490 yen), a chocolate chiffon cake topped with chocolate, banana, and fresh cream; and the "Maple Chiffon Toast with Caramel Sauce and Fresh Cream" (420 yen), maple chiffon toast topped with homemade caramel toast and a melt-in-your-mouth cream made from fresh milk. Customers can choose their own sauces and toppings, and each one is toasted individually in front of them, filling the store with the fragrant smell of toasting.

To celebrate the opening, each store will be giving away free "Plain Chiffon Toast" and "Petit Onigiri" to the first 100 customers each day for three days from the opening date.
