Favre-Leuba, a historic Swiss watch brand founded in 1737, is introducing a new calf leather variation to its unisex Raider Seabird model. The Raider Seabird was released in 2017. This timepiece features a timeless retro-future design reimagined in a 37mm case, exuding an elegant yet powerful presence. The retro-future design, which has its roots in Favre-Leuba watches from the 1970s, is characterized by a cushion case and 14-sided crystal ring, as well as the distinctively shaped hands and square indices on the dial. The lustrous midnight blue dial, complemented by the mirror-finished fluted bezel and brown calfskin strap, embodies elegance.

The strap is made of calf leather. While it inherits the "watch and strap combination" of stainless steel cases and calf leather from the 1970s and earlier, the calf leather strap has been given a "thickness" that is more appropriate for modern watches, balancing the presence of the watch itself with the strap. Although it has the traditional combination of a small diameter case and calf leather, the Raider Seabird, with its galvanically treated glossy blue dial and thick calf leather strap, which were rarely seen in the past, can be said to be a legitimate evolution of vintage watches, a "neo-vintage."

The Raider Seabird inherits Favre-Leuba's philosophy of practical watches. It is water resistant to 10 bar (100m), and the lugs for attaching the strap are designed to fit the wrist, making it comfortable to wear. The movement it is equipped with is based on the Swiss automatic movement ETA2824-2, so there are many craftsmen in Japan who can repair it, including our own repair workshop in Japan, so you can use it with peace of mind for many years to come.
■The Seabird series symbolizes Favre-Leuba's unique history
Seabird (manufactured around 1970)Founded in Le Locle, Switzerland in 1737, Favre-Leuba is a brand known for its practical watches, having been the first in the world to equip wristwatches with altimeters and depth gauges in the 1960s. However, the Seabird, which appeared around 1960, was also a practical watch equipped with a mechanical alarm. The Seabird is a model that symbolizes Favre-Leuba's unique history. In the 1970s, Favre-Leuba sold alarm watches with two different mechanical alarm movements at roughly the same time. The "Seabird" model featured an A. Schild manual-winding alarm movement, while the "Memorader" model featured an automatic alarm movement from Jaeger-LeCoultre's Memovox, which was a sister company at the time. The Seabird's role as a mechanical alarm watch came to an end when it became the "Raider Seabird" in 2017, but its history lives on as a practical watch philosophy.

■Favre-Leuba

The brand was founded in Le Locle, Switzerland in 1737. Since then, they have been producing mechanical watches without interruption for over 280 years. In the 19th century, their pocket watches won numerous awards at world expositions around the world, and they expanded their sales channels all over the world. In the 20th century, not only did they achieve excellent results in observatory chronometer testing, but they also released watches with new functions based on practicality. Representative works include the Bivouac (1962), the world's first wristwatch equipped with an altimeter, and the Bassy (1968), the world's first wristwatch equipped with a depth gauge. Jockey Christophe Lemaire and Tokyo Yakult Swallows pitcher Yasuhiro Ogawa serve as brand ambassadors.
