The Power of Art Dance Series Vol. 2: Naoka Uemura and Maki Morishita's "Running Woman," a dance performance series focusing on female dancers, will be held at Spiral Garden from April 27th to 29th.
The Power of Art Dance Series was launched in March 2012 with the aim of creating opportunities for casual encounters with contemporary dance as an art genre. Making use of the spacious atrium, a hallmark of Maki Fumihiko's architecture, the series offers a unique viewing style, with a 16-meter-high atrium and a spiral ramp leading to the upper floors overlooking the stage.
The second installment of this series features a collaboration between three distinctive female dancers and choreographers representing Japan's contemporary dance world. The performers are Naoka Uemura and Maki Morishita. In addition to her solo work, Kamimura has collaborated with photographers, lighting designers, and fashion designers, and has frequently presented outside of theaters. Her ambitious challenges and achievements earned her the 36th Dance Critics Association Newcomer Award. Meanwhile, Morishita has performed solo works in over 30 cities in 10 countries, and has expanded her genre-crossing activities by choreographing works directed by Nagatsuka Keishi and appearing in live performances by Yano Akiko (yanokami). At the request of both dancers, the choreography was handled by dancer and choreographer Kurosawa Mika, also known as the "godmother" of the contemporary dance world.
