Catherine Martin's gorgeous pop 1920s costumes with Prada

Apr 18, 2013

The much talked about film "The Great Gatsby," starring Leonardo DiCaprio, is scheduled to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May ahead of its Japanese release on June 14th, but fashionistas are nonetheless paying attention to the costumes.

The costumes that adorn the story, which unfolds in the high society of the 1920s, were specially created by Prada designer Miuccia Prada in collaboration with director Baz Luhrmann and his wife, costume designer Catherine Martin. Over 40 dresses were inspired by archive collections from Prada and Miu Miu.

For example, in the scene where Carey Mulligan attends Gatsby's party, The crystal beaded dress she wears is inspired by Prada's Spring/Summer 2010 collection.

The jewelry is provided by Tiffany & Co., and the menswear is provided by Brooks Brothers.
