A promotion featuring pottery by eight female artists, including popular Mashiko ware artist Yamanobe Aya, as well as Yaita Midori and Shimohisa Kumiko, will be held from the 22nd to the 28th at the Living Dining area on the 5th floor of the main building of Isetan Shinjuku.
Yamanobe Aya is one of the up-and-coming artists who uses a unique technique to paint motifs such as flowers, plants, and geometric patterns on her vessels with a distinctive balance and sense of color. The buyer in charge commented, "This project with Yamanobe has taken three years to come to fruition. Because she is based in Mashiko, there is a limit to the number of pieces available, and because she is a popular artist, it took quite some time to prepare." In addition to Yaita Midori's simple plant and animal motifs and the gentle, warm-toned pottery of Mashiko-based Shimonaku Kumiko, the store will also feature works by female pottery artists such as Imae Mio, Kawai Rina, Nakagawa Rimiko, Kimura Fuyuko, and Nomura Akiko. Golden Week is coming up, and Mother's Day is just around the corner. "We hope that customers will pick up pieces crafted with a uniquely feminine sensibility and consider them as gifts for themselves or as Mother's Day presents," says the aforementioned buyer. Prices start at around 5,000 yen, making them accessible. The store's living room floor was recently remodeled in March 2015, incorporating themes such as "relaxation," "gathering," and "comfort." Enjoying everyday life through pottery is a joy.
For sales on April 22nd, the first day of the event, the store is requesting through its website that customers who wish to make a purchase gather at "Entrance 1 on the first floor of the main building on Meiji-dori Street side by 9:00 AM." From 9:00 AM, a lottery will be held and numbered tickets will be distributed.
