Feb 19, 2015

On March 4th, Isetan Shinjuku will celebrate the grand opening of its 5th floor Living Room and 6th floor Baby & Children's Room. In conjunction with this, Kagoshima Mutsumi's solo exhibition, "Decoration - Flowers and Birds," will be held in the West Park on the 5th floor.

Kagoshima Mutsumi is a ceramic artist known for his distinctive touch and design, creating works with animal and plant motifs. He also produces fabrics and prints in addition to ceramics, and has held solo exhibitions in the United States and the United Kingdom. The exhibition will feature a lineup of rare, limited-edition items from Kagoshima's work, including pot-shaped art pieces, flower and bird-themed art objects, and wall reliefs.

In addition, a "Wall Bird" object, depicting a bird gracefully spreading its wings in Hasami ware, will be available for pre-sale. There are three variations and 11 colors, including white, black, yellow, and blue. He commented, "I started making 'Wall Birds' soon after I started ceramics. I am very happy to be able to turn it into a product in collaboration with the master craftsmen of Hasami."

Since spring 2015, he has collaborated with children's clothing brand Familiar, providing items such as baby coveralls, cushion covers, bags, and pouches using original fabrics he designed himself. From among these works, fabric panels with large and small flower motifs will be on display at the exhibition.
