
Fashion designer Gianfranco Ferre was born on August 15, 1944, in Lombardy, Italy. He passed away in 2007. He studied architecture at the Polytechnic University of Milan and obtained his architect's license. After graduating, he designed accessories and T-shirts for FIORUCCI. In 1978, he launched his own brand, Gianfranco Ferre, and released a women's collection. Together with Giorgio Armani and Gianni Versace, two Milan-based designers active at the same time, he became known as the "Three Gs of Milan." In 1989, he became chief designer at Christian Dior, where he was in charge of haute couture and women's ready-to-wear, but retired in 1996. He later founded his own brand, GFF, and launched the Gianfranco Ferre casual line. He passed away in June 2007 at the age of 62.
Currently, the designers of Gianfranco Ferre are Stefano Citron and Federico Piaggi.
