Fashion designer Katharine Hamnett was born on August 16, 1948, in Kent, England. She studied fashion design at Central Saint Martins College of Art from 1965 to 1969. After graduating, she worked as a freelance designer in London, Paris, Milan, New York, and Hong Kong. In 1979, she founded her own brand, "Katharine Hamnett." In 1981, she launched a men's and denim line. In 1983, she released the "Choose Life" T-shirt collection, featuring anti-nuclear and pro-peace slogans. Since then, her work has consistently conveyed strong messages, including those related to the environment, politics, and peace. In 2011, she was awarded the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in recognition of her longstanding contributions to environmental issues.
She is also active in charity work, and in April of this year she made headlines by participating in a demonstration in London calling for the protection of bees, alongside fashion designer Vivienne Westwood.
