Seiko Nextage will release new colors for its "W" series in mid-September, a collaboration between the "ISSEY MIYAKE Watch Project" and car and product designer Satoshi Wada. This marks the first new colorway in the series in about a year.
The new colors feature two models with white dials and blue second hands. They feature a mechanical zero-reset center second hand, recreating the feel of a mechanical watch, including the movement of the chronograph hands and the click of the operation buttons. The joint connecting the case and band is designed to move vertically, making it suitable for even the slenderest of women's wrists.
The bands are available in two types: stainless steel and tanned leather. The tanned leather is processed by a long-established manufacturer in Mukojima, Tokyo. The satin-finished stainless steel back is an homage to the Audi TT's fuel tank cover, embodying Wada's signature style as a car designer. Prices are 45,150 yen for the stainless steel type (SILAY007) and 39,900 yen for the model with a natural leather band (SILAY008). Wada was born in Tokyo in 1961. After graduating from Musashino Art University, he joined Nissan Motors in 1984. From 1989, he studied at the Royal College of Art in the UK for two years. In 1998, he moved to Audi AG/Audi Design, where he was responsible for major series such as the Audi A5 and A6, which are described as "the most beautiful coupes in the world." In June 2009, he left the company and founded the design studio "SWdesign TOKYO." Since going independent, he has focused on developing new vehicle designs while also working on designs based on the theme of "minimalist things and lifestyles for a new era."
