Giorgio Armani designed the costumes for Jodie Foster, who stars in the new film "Elysium," due to be released in Japan next month.
The sci-fi action blockbuster, directed by Neill Blomkamp (District 9) and starring Matt Damon, premiered on 3,284 screens in the US on August 9th, grossing $30.5 million (approximately 2.9 billion yen), making it the top-selling film at the weekend box office.
The story follows Max, a young man played by Matt, who is given only five days to live and embarks on a mission to obtain a special device that can cure any incurable disease. Foster plays Decorato, the head of the Ministry of Defense of the near-future artificial space station "Elysium." She always wears Giorgio Armani suits that match the clean, airtight world of Elysium. The wardrobe includes a pewter-colored jacket and skirt, a pantsuit with a gray shawl collar jacket, a leather dress, and a bronze metallic peak lapel jacket paired with copper-tone silk pants.
A known film buff, Armani has designed costumes for numerous films, including Richard Gere's in "American Gigolo," as well as "The Dark Knight," "The Untouchables," "Gattaca," "Ocean's Thirteen," and "The Social Network." The film's costume designer is April Ferry, who was nominated for an Academy Award for "Maverick." This marks the first time Armani has collaborated with Ferry.
Elysium will be released at Shinjuku Piccadilly and other theaters nationwide from September 20th.
