With July upon us, summer is fast approaching. Many people have likely given up on overseas travel this year. Pursuant to a licensing agreement with Peanuts Worldwide LLC, SPECIAL PRODUCT DESIGN Co., Ltd. will begin selling "SURF'S UP PEANUTS" merchandise, featuring the popular tanned Snoopys and friends, exclusively available in Hawaii, for a limited time starting July 3rd on "hopely," an online shopping site specializing in character goods. Charles M. Schulz first introduced his Peanuts characters to the world in 1950. This was when Peanuts made its debut in seven newspapers. Since then, Charlie Brown, Snoopy, and the rest of the Peanuts gang have left an indelible mark on pop culture. Starting with the new series "Snoopy in Space," which debuted on Apple TV+ on November 1, 2019, Peanuts animated series air as specials and daily shows on major networks and streaming services, including ABC, Cartoon Network, and Boomerang in the United States, Family Channel in Canada, and YouTube's WildBrain Spark network globally. Fans around the world also enjoy Peanuts through a wide variety of merchandise, amusement park attractions, cultural events, social media, and comic strips published in a variety of traditional print and digital formats. In 2018, Peanuts entered into a multi-year partnership with NASA under the Space Act Agreement, a program designed to inspire a passion for space exploration and STEM for the next generation of kids. The Peanuts characters and related intellectual property rights are owned 41% by WildBrain, 39% by Sony Music Entertainment Inc., and 20% by the family of Charles M. Schulz.
In Japan, Sony Creative Products Inc. acts as the agent and handles the licensing business. The 70th anniversary year began on October 2, 2019, ahead of the 70th anniversary of the original comic series on October 2, 2020.
