The Musée Guimet in Paris is hosting an exhibition of Kitaoji Rosanjin's work, "The Beauty of Rosanjin - The Genius of Japanese Cuisine 1883-1959," until the 9th of next month, featuring the artist who inspired the character Kaibara Yuzan in the manga "Oishinbo." The exhibition features porcelain, ceramics, lacquerware, and folding screens by Rosanjin, collected from all over Japan, including the National Museum of Modern Art in Kyoto and Tokyo, and the Setagaya Art Museum. The 91 pieces are displayed in a continuous sequence, reflecting the Japanese concept of "ma." A diagonal line leads through the exhibition space, creating a continuous space with Japanese pillars and beams, thanks to a continuous frame. The spatial concept was created by Ryusuke Minami. Photographer Yoshihiko Ueda's "M-sea" series, capturing the passage of time at Tojinbo, is displayed on a curved surface approximately 25 meters long, centered around one of Rosanjin's masterpieces, "Sun and Moon Bowl." The series aims to convey the "change of time" visually and sensibly. To convey Rosanjin's side as a gourmet and chef, the exhibition collaborated with renowned Japanese restaurants, including Kyoto Kikunoi and Ginza Kyubei, to create a video. An interactive installation recreating the tabletops of restaurants is set inside an organdy "House of Light," featuring counters and tables. A talk session titled "Beauty and Emotion in Cuisine" featuring Kikunoi owner Yoshihiro Murata and Pierre Gagnaire is scheduled to begin at 6:30 PM on the final day. A special catalog (French version) by Nikkei National Geographic will also be available for purchase at the Guimet Museum bookstore and the French National Museums bookstore.
