A tribute to nearly a century of Italian architectural excellence, the store is filled with innovation, design, and original surprises and encounters. Ferragamo's heritage reflects an unwavering passion for shoes, while the contemporary interior exudes modern elegance. For this renovation project, Ferragamo chose Vincent Van Duysen, known for his expertise in elegant, rigorous, rational, and subtly sensual architecture. He has a deep understanding of essential elegance, always closely linked to materials and sensibility. This sensibility is perfectly aligned with Maximilian Davis, who will serve as Ferragamo's Creative Director from 2022. These core values result in timeless designs that are elegant, refined and warm, while always allowing for new encounters full of surprises.

The store is located in the historic Palazzo Carcasso Grandi, built in the 15th century and redesigned in the early 19th century. The palace was once home to the patriot Emilio Morosini, one of the leaders of the Italian unification movement, and a key player in Milan's vibrant cultural and political scene of the time. Van Duysen has reimagined the materials, light, and rhythm of the building while paying utmost respect to the original architecture.

The large shoe room, with its vaulted ceiling and columns that speak to its special connection to history, is the conceptual starting point for the store. From here, we are invited on a creative journey that transcends time and leaps into the future. Various materials interact with each other to create a modern classicism. The Venetian-style plaster walls, stone floors, and ceilings are finished in a bright, warm color scheme with hints of cream. The beautiful mottled marble slabs are finished in red, founder Salvatore Ferragamo's favorite color. A large mirror in a bronze frame creates a sense of spaciousness. The furniture, including ottomans, armchairs, tables, and display cases, features soft, rounded edges.

Salvatore Ferragamo was an inventor with limitless ideas and a great experimenter with form and materials. His passion for unconventional materials leaves behind an inspiring and varied legacy. He had a keen sense of community and knew how to invite those who bought his shoes in, building a special relationship based on mutual understanding, respect and trust. There is a famous photograph of Salvatore kneeling before a famous client to try on a shoe - a truly unique moment of gifting. Walking through the store is a sophisticated and relaxed experience, like wandering through the rooms of a large house. Each room has its own unique expression, aligned with the collection and amplifying its message. The energy of Ferragamo style permeates these spaces.

The store resembles a museum path full of discoveries, with shoes, bags, accessories and clothing on display, leading up a short flight of stone steps to the silk room. Poufs and armchairs are scattered throughout, creating a space that invites relaxation. The anteroom to the fitting rooms has been conceived as a lounge for relaxation and conversation. Inspired by a modern Renaissance spirit, this new flagship also showcases the work of new artists. From the outside, you can see an alcove decorated with sea-blue ceramic "Aquario" designed by Andrea Mancuso's Analogia Project.

They also designed the tables in the entrance area. The "Corallium" table collection, designed by Andrea Anastasio (curated by Giustini/Staghetti Gallery, Rome), features stones and materials sewn together with leather cords to match the color of the space. Joan Tan's unique and sophisticated upcycled pieces can be found throughout the store, including a stool hand-covered in leather fringe made from scraps from Ferragamo's factories, and an insect-shaped pouf featuring raffia embroidery and leather patchwork inspired by the Salvatore archives.

The flagship store also showcases responsible innovations that contribute to Ferragamo's sustainability. Ferragamo is already using only renewable energy produced in Europe. Temperature, lighting, and ventilation systems are electronically controlled to maximize comfort with minimal energy consumption. These choices and careful use of materials are in line with the requirements for gold certification by LEED, an international green building certification program that evaluates leading efforts to create excellent environmentally friendly buildings. This new store will carry only the women's collection and will offer services such as initial monogramming, Ferragamo's new iconic bag "Hug" in two colors of black and "Milano Yellow," as well as limited items that are not available at other boutiques.
