Wacoal will hold the "Body Beauty Refined by the Times" exhibition at the Hankyu Umeda Main Store from May 31st to June 5th.
This exhibition brings together the Kyoto Costume Institute's (KCI) collection of Western lingerie from the 18th century to the present, along with valuable artifacts from Wacoal, which has been pursuing the "physical beauty" of Japanese women for over 60 years, to explore the evolution of lingerie culture and the close connection between the eras and lingerie.
The exhibition is divided into four sections. The "Beauty History (18th Century to Early 20th Century: Western)" section displays corsets and other lingerie from the KCI collection. The "Beauty History (1945 to Present: Japan)" section explores the evolution of lingerie culture in Japanese society, showcasing Wacoal's hit products, such as the "Tummy Girdle" and "Front-Hook Bra," as well as television commercials and posters from the time. "Beauty forever (Science & Craftsmanship)" will display the circular sewing machine that sewed Wacoal's early bras, showcasing the company's dedication to craftsmanship. "Beauty forever (Suspense Art)" will showcase Wacoal's 2014-2015 lingerie collection in an artistic and fashionable way. Another highlight will be a corner where visitors can experience the body measurement technology of the Wacoal Human Science Institute, which has been measuring women's bodies for 50 years since its founding in 1964, through projection mapping using the latest video technology. Other planned events include a special unveiling of Wacoal's new lingerie collection, featuring mannequins with sexy, beautiful bodies, in a story-driven, suspenseful production that makes full use of video, music, and lighting.
