■ "The Night Tree" by Bhajju Shyaam, Durga Bai, and Ram Singh Urveti

Tara Books, the publisher of this book, is a small publishing house in Chennai, South India. Working with ethnic minority and popular artists, they handle everything from papermaking, printing, binding, and sales in-house, and have attracted the attention of book lovers around the world.

This story about trees is woven together by three artists from the Gond tribe of central India: Bhajju Shyaam, Durga Bai, and Ram Singh Urveti. The sacred trees, said to be the homes of the gods, are depicted in unique colors and touches using silkscreen printing on handmade paper using non-toxic dyes that have been used in India since ancient times. Each book is carefully handcrafted, and the delicacy and warmth of each book evoke a mystical quality not found in Japanese or Western publications, making it truly a work of art.

This book is a Japanese translation published by the Japanese publisher Tamra-do, but was produced locally by Tara Books.
