Each bookstore will act as a concierge, recommending "the book you should read right now" to FASHION HEADLINE readers. Every Thursday, each branch of the art bookstore "NADiff" will introduce a book they recommend. This time, we'll be looking at the flagship store in Ebisu, Tokyo, the NADiff Apartment (1-18-4 Ebisu, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, 1F NADiff A/P/A/R/T).
■ "The World Above" by Patrick Tsai
Patrick Tsai is a photographer born in the United States, who worked in China and Taiwan before becoming a Japan-based artist.
His latest work, "The World Above," tells a fictional story of a young man attempting to scale a towering mountain, and is paired with photographs taken at 12 mountains in Tottori Prefecture. The young protagonist is captured against the mountain scenery of each season, creating a dreamlike imagery, coupled with the gentle, written story.
This book is produced by Ukabu LCC, a Tottori prefecture company that plans projects using local resources as a motif, creates graphic designs, and conducts art management, and is a noteworthy work that is part of an initiative to connect the community and art.
Two versions have been produced: a calendar version and a regular version, and not only can it be enjoyed as a photo collection or picture book, but it can also be hung on the wall and admired.
