New spots to visit during Golden Week: Log Road Daikanyama, Midtown renewal, Tsutaya Electrics...etc.

May 1, 2015

With Golden Week just around the corner, numerous commercial facilities are opening. Here, we'll introduce a selection of new openings and other new hot spots in Tokyo. We'll also be looking out for events at existing commercial facilities that will help you make the most of Golden Week. First up is LOGLOAD DAIKANYAMA, which opened on the former Toyoko Line tracks in Daikanyama. The 220-meter-long site features five commercial buildings and a lush promenade lined with benches. In addition to Kirin Beer's new business, Spring Valley Brewery Tokyo, Fred Segal, a lifestyle multi-brand select shop representing the American West Coast, and Tartine Bakery & Cafe, a popular San Francisco establishment with long lines, are making their Japan debut. Additionally, Tokyo Midtown will see the opening of six new stores in the commercial area, including TASAKI, Aesop, and the facility's first cafe, PALETAS. Of particular note is Isetan Salone, a select store that functions as a salon at the Isetan Shinjuku store. It offers jewelry, watches, handbags, women's clothing, cosmetics, sunglasses, hats, and other items aimed at discerning shoppers. Also attracting attention is the Futako Tamagawa Rise Shopping Center Terrace Market, the central project in the redevelopment of the area around Futako Tamagawa Station, the largest in Tokyo. Opened as an adjunct to Futako Tamagawa Rise in March 2011, Terrace Market boasts a total of 18 stores, including ZARA HOME, Mallorca, a gourmet shop patronized by the Spanish royal family, and Tsutaya Electrics, a new type of bookstore by Tsutaya Bookstore that combines magazines, books, a cafe, and home appliances. Additionally, SIX HARAJUKU TERRACE, a commercial facility built in a secluded location just off Harajuku's Cat Street, has opened a total of eight stores, including new businesses and Japan's first permanent locations, such as the Restir concept shop 221 Restir. Also, on the rooftop of Lumine Shinjuku, the Rooftop Cinema & Beer Festival will be held, where you can enjoy free outdoor screenings of both new and old films, including the classic "Stand by Me," while savoring cuisine from around the world, such as churrasco and Vietnamese pho. This is a rare opportunity to enjoy a film on a city rooftop in this pleasant season. Commercial facilities opening before Golden Week are chock-full of new businesses and shops making their Japan debut. Even established fashion spots are offering special events that can only be enjoyed during the long weekend. Why not take advantage of this precious long weekend to visit one of Tokyo's large commercial facilities?
