Ito Kyuemon, a long-established Kyoto Uji tea maker founded in the late Edo period, is holding the "Matcha x Hydrangea Festival 2019" to coincide with hydrangea season. They'll be offering modern Japanese sweets, including the "Hydrangea Parfait," which was a big hit last year. The event will run until the end of June.




Ito Kyuemon's flagship store and teahouse are located in Uji, Kyoto. Located in this area is Mimuroto Temple, a famous hydrangea spot known as the "Hydrangea Temple." It's a popular spot for hydrangeas, and bustles with tourists during the rainy season. During hydrangea blooming, wait times can often be as long as 180 minutes for a seat at the teahouse. Apparently, last year there were days when registration closed after noon.

This year, in celebration of hydrangea season, Ito Kyuemon is once again proposing colorful "hydrangea sweets."

One of the sweets worth paying particular attention to is the "hydrangea parfait."

A seasonal parfait inspired by hydrangeas wet with dew, with matcha hydrangea kinton (sweetened sweet potato jelly), hydrangea-colored crushed jelly, leaf-shaped matcha cookies, blueberries, and more. The price for the parfait alone is 1,280 yen (tax included), and the parfait and tea set is 1,680 yen (tax included). In addition, this year a new menu item will be introduced, "Hydrangea Tea Ceremony - with Yuzu Shizuku and Matcha" (1,980 yen tax included), which includes Uji matcha kudzu noodles. The parfait will be available at the Uji Main Store and the JR Uji Station store.

In addition to the tea room, don't miss the hydrangea sweets available for takeout.

Last year, items such as "Hydrangea Panna Cotta" (540 yen tax included) and "Matcha Hydrangea Kinton" (3 pieces, 777 yen tax included), which sold out in the morning, will also be available in limited quantities.
