Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings will open a new men's select store in Tokyo's Marunouchi district this December. This mid-sized store, anchored by its Shinjuku flagship store, follows the April opening of "Isetan Salone," a women's store offering a unique selection of sophisticated styles, at Tokyo Midtown in Roppongi. It marks the second men's store in the Isetan Haneda store chain, following two Isetan Haneda stores at Haneda Airport. The new store will be located on the first floor of the Shin Tokyo Building on Nakadori Street. Aimed at discerning businessmen who frequent the Marunouchi area, the salon functions of the Shinjuku flagship men's store, aiming to attract a demographic previously unattracted by department store customers and to enhance convenience for existing men's store customers. One of the company's mid-term plans is to expand its domestic small- and medium-sized store network and improve profitability. The company plans to open eight select stores, such as Isetan Salone, by fiscal 2018 (excluding the Isetan Haneda store), with sales projected at 9.5 billion yen in fiscal 2018. Starting with a planned opening in Dai Nagoya Building next spring, the company is also considering opening stores in major regional cities as a new business model. The Isetan Haneda Store, which currently has three locations, is scheduled to expand to six in fiscal 2018. "The Isetan Salone in Roppongi was a marketing initiative aimed at understanding the luxury needs of customers in Minato Ward, where visitor rates to the Shinjuku store are low, and the same is true for the Marunouchi store. While it is predicted that opening new large department store-style stores will be difficult in the future, areas where we have not yet opened, such as Kobe, are attractive," said Taiyo Onishi, Representative Director and President of Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings. The company plans to accelerate its efforts to expand its small and medium-sized store channels from this fiscal year onwards. "Isetan Mirror," a cosmetics editing shop that will open in a 120-square-meter space at the Tokyu Plaza Omotesando Harajuku store in November, plans to increase its current number of stores from 10 to 19 in fiscal 2018. MI Plaza, an edited goods store that takes advantage of the characteristics of each area, aims to increase its stores from the current 70 to 140 in fiscal 2018, and plans to expand its small and medium-sized satellite stores from the current 92 to 180 stores with a revenue of 60 billion yen by the end of fiscal 2018, and expects to increase sales by 8 billion yen this fiscal year alone compared to last year.
