© Jean-François José Hermès, designed by Nadége Vanhége Vanhée-Cybulski, held its show at Longchamp Racecourse, which is due to reopen in October after renovations.
The runway was covered in sand, and a large mirror was placed in front of the audience. The sky was reflected in the mirror, blurring the lines between sky and sea, or horizon and horizon. This was in line with the collection, which began with a fantasy story about what would happen if a horse-riding woman, a "saddler," became a "sailor." While incorporating sailor and fisherman styles, the collection also incorporated the world of equestrian riding that is characteristic of Hermès, and as always, was full of profound ideas.
A drawwork leather dress decorated with rivets and cords was hooded, creating a look that combined the attire of a sailor and a fisherman. A zip-up dress in the key color, neon orange, was coordinated with a leather lattice dress. Crafted meticulously by hand by artisans, lattice elements are used frequently this season. Stripe motifs were also seen in various looks, and even a bright red workwear-style jumpsuit revealed pink lines woven into it using jacquard when viewed up close. The blazers and blousons that appeared in the second half of the show were adorned with metal buttons in the shape of rudder, handcrafted by ceramic artist Laurence Owen, and in some looks the buttons were painted to give a rusty effect, evoking a strong image of the sea. Each look was extremely simple in form, but the intricate details and materials gave them a deeper, more story-like quality.
