Dries Van Noten's Wearable Couture [Women's Spring/Summer 2019]

Oct 3, 2018

Dries Van Noten held its Spring/Summer 2019 women's collection show at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris. Recently, the brand's acquisition by the Spanish luxury group Puig has been much talked about, but the brand's approach to creation remains unchanged, captivating audiences with its signature elegance and beauty until the very end.

The theme was "workwear and haute couture." These two seemingly incompatible elements were mixed with an exquisite sense of balance, creating a fresh take on simple, classic pieces.

Blouson jackets and coats featuring sporty details such as jumpsuits and climbing ropes were coordinated with dresses embroidered with feather-inspired vinyl parts. A top with 1920s-style shoulder pads was embroidered with long beaded fringe, creating a casual couture look. There were many items in which mismatching revealed new beauty, such as layering diagonal stripes over floral-printed organza, giving a real sense of the brand's magic.

Earth tones and vivid colors, matte materials and shining materials, graphic motifs and concrete motifs. The collection wove together a variety of elements, depicting all sorts of contrasts, yet effortlessly realizing the fusion of workwear and haute couture, showcasing a single, unwavering worldview.
