The "Kagoshima Issue" of "d design travel," a travel guidebook with one issue dedicated to tourism in each of Japan's 47 prefectures, will be released in early July. Based on the editorial theme of "long-life design" (the unique character of a region that continues to last), the guidebook features tourism in each of Japan's 47 prefectures, with one issue dedicated to each prefecture. To commemorate this, events such as an exhibition, a talk show by the editorial staff, an event featuring Kagoshima cuisine, and a rakugo performance will be held at Shibuya Hikarie in Tokyo and in Kagoshima Prefecture from June 15th.

"d design travel Kagoshima" (¥1,900)
Since its launch in 2009, "d design travel" has published issues covering 23 prefectures to date. Through events held in Tokyo and the featured prefectures, the magazine reorganizes and communicates the unique character of each of Japan's 47 prefectures, providing an opportunity to reexamine the distinctive local creations and foster a sense of awareness toward preserving their value. This book offers a function not found in previous travel guides.
The first edition of the "Kagoshima Issue" was published in April 2010. This issue, featuring Kagoshima's ever-evolving history over the past eight years, has been re-examined and edited, with a completely new content and layout, resulting in a book that delves even deeper into the unique character of the island. Up to four locations are carefully selected in each of six categories—sightseeing, restaurants, shopping, cafes, accommodations, and people—to showcase long-lasting spots and initiatives that represent each region. Other sections include "Normal Kagoshima," which introduces unique customs that the editorial team discovered and have become commonplace in each region; the background behind the development of the "Kagoshima Teishoku" (Kagoshima Set Meal); and the "Editorial Diary," which chronicles the unique local experiences the editorial team saw, heard, and experienced during their stay. The book features approximately 100 locations. Communicating the essence of Kagoshima from a variety of perspectives.
 Kagoshima Round and Round Stamp
Kagoshima Round and Round Stamp
To commemorate the release of this magazine, a stamp rally called "d Editorial Department's Kagoshima Round and Round" will be held, tracing the footsteps of the editorial department. Between June 23rd and July 30th, if you bring the Kagoshima edition to any of the "d Mark" locations featured in this magazine, you can get an original stamp.
In addition, the two stores, "d47" in Shibuya Hikarie and "D&DEPARTMENT KAGOSHIMA by MARUYA" in Kagoshima City, will serve as the starting point for a variety of events that go beyond just the magazine, giving people a more three-dimensional experience of Kagoshima Prefecture since the first edition was published and inspiring them to travel.

The "d design travel KAGOSHIMA EXHIBITION," an exhibition that brings the magazine to life in three dimensions, will be held from June 15th to July 30th at "d47 MUSEUM" on the 8th floor of Shibuya Hikarie. The editorial team has thoroughly researched the "local character" and recreated it through exhibits of work tools, equipment, decorations, and other items actually used there.
Expected exhibits include lava art from Sakurajima, a telescope from Kagoshima City's Kihoku Astronomical Museum, Satsuma ware, shochu jars, and the noren curtain from a cultural ramen shop in Kagoshima City's Tenmonkan. The unique designs of the numerous exhibits, which seem to have jumped out of the pages of the magazine, will allow visitors to get a feel for the "current state of Kagoshima" that the editorial team has walked, seen, heard, and eaten, rediscovering its charm and inspiring them to actually travel to Kagoshima Prefecture.
A limited-time store will also be set up within the venue where you can purchase Kagoshima souvenirs recommended by the editorial team. You can purchase wooden cutlery and bags made by Shobu Gakuen, sake vessels from Chinjukan Kiln, mud-dyed coral and tenugui towels from Kanai Kogei, soy sauce from Chojiya, rum durbar from Baigetsudo, coffee beans from Isminato Coffee Roastery, and shochu from Yamato Sakura Brewery and other parts of the prefecture.
