The street food festival "Gourmet Street Food Vol. 5" will be held over two days, April 28th and 29th, at the United Nations University in Aoyama, Tokyo.


While there are many different street culture scenes, the street food scene has typically been dominated by cheap gourmet food and festival stalls. However, just as sushi originated as a peddler long ago, Japanese food culture born on the streets is in fact abundant in the world. The unconventional styles and free-spirited ideas that are only possible on the streets are a testament to the creation of this new food culture.


Yakisoba, yakitori, crepes, chocolate bananas... are all familiar staples of traditional "street food" at festivals and fairs. The venue will host "Tokyo Gourmet Yatai," a futuristic food stall village where traditional "street food" has been evolved by young chefs who are leading the modern food and beverage industry. Tasting tickets will also be available for purchase, allowing you to choose your favorite dish from over 10 different dishes prepared by participating chefs.

Highlights include crepes by PATH owner and pastry chef Yuichi Goto, available exclusively at this event, and chocolate bananas from Minimal, a bean-to-bar chocolate specialty shop. Enjoy a nostalgic yet fresh flavor.


Food carts, which have often been described as B-grade, are now elevating their quality to rival that of restaurants.

A huge gathering of next-generation food cart gourmet, including a lemonade specialty store that uses only additive-free lemons, freshly baked pizza, tacos made from handmade crusts and seasonings, and stewed rice bowls made only with A5-grade beef! Harajuku's "THE GREAT BURGER," which always has a constant line of customers, will also be opening for the first time. These are two precious days where all the elusive food carts operating from all over Tokyo will gather together at once.


At the venue, cutting-edge artists such as Silkscreen Senbei by TAKUMI MOROHASHI, Team Mikansei, and Chonmaru will be showcasing artwork unique to this food festival. A caricature artist will be creating pancake portraits, and a silkscreen artist will be setting up a food silkscreen booth, adding to the excitement.

In addition, artist Yellow Yellow will be hosting an "Entertainment Lunch" that combines art installations and food. The special lunch, named "YELLOW LUNCH LOUNGE by "Yellow Yellow"", will have everything from the space to the plates in yellow, and will feature a menu that is also yellow, similar to what you're likely used to eating. This food art will allow you to experience how, although it's the sense of taste that perceives the flavor of food, our sense of sight and space also have a huge influence on what we perceive as delicious.
