ISSEY MIYAKE, designed by Yoshiyuki Miyamae, presented its Fall/Winter 2018-19 women's collection at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris. Titled "Silent Energy," the collection poetically expressed the transition from winter to spring, starting with a white series and progressing through brown and brighter hues. This season, the entire collection was made up of steam-stretch material, woven with thick yarn to create a knit-like texture. While remaining committed to a single technique, the material showcased expressive gradations. The white series, featuring faux fur, emphasized warmth with its volume. The brown and black series were inspired by natural soil. Each collection utilized wool, which would be heavy if knitted as is, but was successfully made lighter by using the steam-stretch technique.
The final series uses thin materials woven with thick yarn, creating optimistic pieces that evoke the brightness of the arrival of spring.
By combining the two elements of knit and pleats, the collection beautifully expresses a story inspired by nature.
