Loewe "International Craft Prize" Exhibition to be held at 21_21 Design Sight Gallery 3

Event Date:2017.11.17-11.30
Nov 4, 2017

LOEWE Craft Prize 2017 is an international competition hosted by LOEWE. A traveling exhibition, LOEWE International Craft Prize, showcasing the works of the 26 finalists, including the grand prize winner, will be held at 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT3 in Tokyo Midtown from November 17th to 30th.

LOEWE Craft Prize was launched in 2016 by the LOEWE Foundation and LOEWE Creative Director Jonathan Anderson to honor today's outstanding artisans. The award recognizes the importance of craftsmanship today and aims to recognize outstanding working artisans whose talent, vision, and drive for innovation will set new standards for the future. Inspired by Loewe's founding as a collaborative workshop, this year's Grand Prize was awarded to Ernst Gamperl's "Tree of Life 2" from among 26 finalists.

Jury Chair Anatxu Zabalbeascoa commented, "I admire the way this piece explores the intersection between formal values and a social message. It's not only beautiful, but also teaches us the value of recycling. Its exceptional craftsmanship is based on rescuing fallen trees and restoring nature. This is the work of a gifted artisan with special abilities who has cultivated a distinctive personal voice, rather than a style or signature." Creative Director Jonathan Anderson also praised the exhibition, saying, "Ernst Gamper's work has a unique voice, and I believe the physicality of his work will become increasingly important over the years to come." This exhibition marks Loewe's first in Asia, following exhibitions in Spain and New York in April.
