This week, we really felt the rainy season begin. We recommend checking out an art exhibition in collaboration with a fashion brand this weekend. This stylish and slightly humorous event is sure to impress.
■ "Dior" Photographed by Suzuki Risaku, Hanayo, Nomura Sakiko, and Hirasawa Kenji
Location: Christian Dior Omotesando Boutique (5-9-11 Jingumae, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo)
This photo exhibition, inspired by Raf Simons' Dior Spring/Summer 2013 collection, features four photographers: Suzuki Risaku, Hanayo, Nomura Sakiko, and Hirasawa Kenji. The spirit of Monsieur Christian Dior, who was a gallerist before becoming a couturier, continues to be passed down even after his death and is firmly etched in the Maison's DNA. The exhibition runs until June 17th.
■Thomas Bayrle "Monuments of Traffic"
Location: Espace Louis Vuitton (7th floor, Louis Vuitton Omotesando Building, 5-7-5 Jingumae, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo)
German artist Thomas Bayrle is known as a pioneer of media art and pop art in the 1960s. This exhibition features new works created specifically for this exhibition, as well as "Carmageddon," a work created by deconstructing a large-scale wall piece presented at last year's international contemporary art exhibition, Documenta (2013). These works humorously address serious themes such as environmental destruction and accidents. Until September 1st.
■Margaret Howell Fair
Location: Daikanyama T-Site (17-5 Sarugaku-cho, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo)
Lifestyle goods, primarily chairs, selected by fashion designer Margaret Howell will be on display and for sale. Books that inspire her lifestyle will also be introduced. Until June 30th.
■ "Old Letters from London"
Location: Paul Smith Space Gallery (3F, 5-46-14 Jingumae, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo)
This is the first exhibition in Japan by A TWO PIPE PROBLEM LETTERPRESS, a popular letterpress studio based in East London. In addition to past works and collaborative works with Japanese artists, collaborative works featuring letterpress prints on Paul Smith fabrics are on display and for sale. From June 15th to July 15th.
■ From Beyoncé to Obama! Keiichi Nitta Photo Exhibition "100K"
Location: Global Closet, 2F, Main Building, Isetan Shinjuku (3-14-1 Shinjuku, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo)
This exhibition features portraits taken by photographer Keiichi Nitta himself. Up until now, people have disguised themselves as around 30 celebrities, including Michael Jackson, Prince, and Marilyn Monroe. This time, photos of people dressed as Justin Bieber, President Obama, Beyoncé, James Brown, Freddie Mercury, Prince, Madonna, Che Guevara, and Grace Jones are on display. The exhibition runs until June 25th.
Father's Day is this weekend. We're worried about the weather, but we hope you all have a great weekend!
