Nakameguro 1904's "Shimanami Lemon Cake" - A nostalgic sweet and sour treat wrapped in a candy shape [A cute retro souvenir]

Aug 11, 2017
Apparently, there was a time in the 1960s when "lemon cake" was all the rage, popular as a gift or offering at Buddhist altars. For this reason, some generations evoke a certain nostalgia for lemon cake, as a taste they cherished as children. Recently, however, the "lemon cake" craze has been rekindled, with its appearance increasingly appearing in convenience store sweets and regional confectionery shops. Among the "Heisei Lemon Cakes" experiencing a resurgence in popularity, we'd like to introduce the "Shimanami Lemon Cake" (230 yen, best-by date approximately 21 days) sold at Pâtisserie 1904 (Disneufson Quatre) in Nakameguro. Its appearance, a lemon-shaped pound cake drizzled with lemon-infused chocolate, and its cute candy-shaped packaging have garnered attention, making it popular with people of all ages, from families with children to seniors.

The tart sponge cake, made with generous amounts of Iwaki Island lemons, perfectly balances the sweet and sour flavor of the white chocolate.

The fragrant Iwaki Island lemon juice is incorporated into the pound cake dough and the white chocolate drizzled on top, filling your mouth with the perfect balance of refreshing lemon tartness and chocolate sweetness. In the summer, we recommend chilling it in the refrigerator to allow the chocolate to crisp up a bit.
