VIKTOR&ROLF, created by Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren, held their Fall/Winter 2017-18 Haute Couture show at the National Museum of Natural History in Paris's 5th arrondissement. The collection, titled "ACTION DOLLS," featured 20 looks based on the MA-1 bomber jacket, a US Air Force jacket, coordinated with denim and slippers or Dr. Martens shoes, complete with a large mask depicting a deformed girl's face. The bomber jackets were crafted from technical Japanese materials, featuring exaggerated collars, sleeves, and hems, large ribbon decorations, and patchwork details. The patchwork technique, adapted from the designer's previous two collections, combined new and old materials and was frequently used on denim pants.
Just when you thought you'd be distracted by the masks and unable to concentrate on the clothes, the models kindly removed them and walked the runway again with messy hair. We also confirmed that two male models were included. The concept of patchwork was actually incorporated into the collection as a symbol of a desire for harmony, conveying the message that "unity is born through diversity, we seek unity over division, and skin color, nationality, age, and family history are irrelevant."
The collection was sprinkled with the unique expression of a fashion artist, and was filled with a strong energy that contradicted the cuteness of the dolls.
