Viktor & Rolf held their Spring/Summer 2016 Haute Couture show at the Palais de Tokyo on January 27th. Aiming to fuse art and fashion, the duo mixed sculpture and clothing in this season's "Performance of Sculptures." Based on technical piqué polo shirts, they presented dresses adorned with mask-like embellishments evoking Cubism and Surrealism. All looks were paired with Dr. Martens for a sporty feel, while couture elements like large ruffles and plunging décolletés emphasized femininity. As the show progressed, the decorations grew larger and the structures more complex. Pieces introduced in the latter half of the show, such as round sun-like masks and dresses with multiple overlapping faces, were truly art pieces. Perhaps because it was difficult to see in front of them, the models walked timidly while wearing them. The venue was filled with a harmonious atmosphere, exuding a surreal yet humorous and fun vibe.

This collection also hinted at the announcement that a capsule collection of four items - a polo dress, tunic, polo shirt and an eye-shaped brooch - would be sold on the luxury online store Moda Operandi (www.modaoperandi.com). Having withdrawn from ready-to-wear last year, it's great to see that their clothes are now available in this way.
