Viktor & Rolf Experiments with Reviving Materials from Their Archive Collection [2016-2017 Autumn/Winter Couture]

Jul 24, 2016

VIKTOR&ROLF held their Fall/Winter 2016-2017 Haute Couture show at the Gaite Lyrik Theatre. Inspired by Charles Dickens's "Vagabond," the designers reclaimed and reused materials unused in previous collections to create entirely new pieces, creating an experimental collection. The floral print from the Spring/Summer 2015 collection became part of a hand-knitted piece, while the tulle from the Spring/Summer 2010 collection was used to decorate a top with large ruffles and the skirt of the military-inspired Grand Soirée dress at the end of the show. Buttons left over from the atelier were sorted by color and used as embroidery elements on various items. Used Coca-Cola sweatshirts, denim pants, and military jackets were cut and threaded with torn ribbons of fabric, creating a completely new and glamorous look.

Like a vagabond, his styling seemed to involve him wearing whatever he found around him as he pleased, but in fact everything was meticulously calculated, with items transformed into sculptural silhouettes that displayed a fresh beauty.
