Did you know that there's a Disney resort in Hawaii? It's called Aulani Disney Resort & Spa, Ko Olina, Hawaii (Ali'Inui Dr, Kapolei, HI 96707, USA). From the hotel to the pool and spa, this resort is entirely designed by Disney.
...It seems like there will be a lot of kids and it won't be relaxing, so I'll pass. No kids' areas? To be honest, I thought the same thing before I went. But now I can say with confidence: "It would be a shame not to go!" It's truly a paradise on earth, with plenty to offer for families, adults, and couples alike.
Aulani opened in August 2011 in the resort area of Ko Olina on the west coast of Oahu. It's about a 30-minute drive from Honolulu Airport, on the opposite side of Waikiki. Its location, away from the hustle and bustle of the city center, gives it an island-like atmosphere while still on the mainland. The two towers that form the core of Aulani Resort are designed to harmonize opposing elements, such as masculine and feminine, or mountain and sea. The open lobby offers a panoramic view of the pool and ocean, creating a truly vacation-inducing atmosphere. Murals depict Hawaiian life from ancient times to the present, and the interior features iconic Hawaiian motifs such as taro leaves, the 'iwa bird (a bird used to guide boats), and canoes. Guest rooms incorporate a Hawaiian flair while maintaining a calming atmosphere. Standard rooms with two queen-size beds are spacious, and the bathrooms are stocked with original amenities. The sea-salt shampoo and bath gel have a refreshing, unisex scent. Rooms with king-size beds and kitchenettes, as well as condominium-style rooms with full kitchen facilities, are also available, making them ideal for long-term stays.
Speaking of which, I was wondering if there were any other character items besides the table lamp of Mickey playing the ukulele... when I discovered a hidden Mickey on a Hawaiian quilted bed runner! It's discreetly hidden throughout the hotel, so keep your eyes peeled.
Aulani is sprinkled with Disney's unique playfulness, while also strongly exuding respect for Hawaiian traditions and culture. Why not go on a journey to discover the Hawaiian spirit with Mickey Mouse? Not only is it fun, but a stay there might even boost your femininity...? Starting from this point on, we'd like to take a closer look at its charms over the course of five articles.
