Luxury resort hotel "Aman" opens first urban hotel in Otemachi

Nov 7, 2014

Aman, the luxury resort hotel chain, will open its first urban hotel, Aman Tokyo, on December 22nd for a limited time. The hotel was designed by architect Kerry Hill, who has worked on six Aman resorts around the world. The interior blends traditional Japanese design with modern elements, using traditional Japanese building materials such as camphor wood, washi paper, and stone. Ample sunlight is utilized, creating a beautiful and dynamic space where light and shadow intertwine. A particularly noteworthy feature is the atrium above the lobby. Soft light filters through the shoji-style walls, creating an open and bright atmosphere during the day, along with the sunlight streaming in through the full-length windows. At night, the soft lighting creates a solemn, Japanese atmosphere. The garden reception also features a Zen-inspired rock garden, designed to provide a welcome respite from the distractions of everyday life. A flower arrangement is placed in the center of the pond, embodying Aman's cherished philosophy of "coexistence with nature." The hotel has a total of 84 guest rooms, including suites. At 71 square meters, each standard room boasts the largest floor space in Tokyo. The premium rooms, boasting views of the Skytree and Tokyo Bay area, offer even more luxurious entrances and bathrooms. The top-of-the-line Aman Suite boasts a spacious 157 square meters, offering panoramic views of Tokyo. The Restaurant by Aman on the 33rd floor offers modern continental cuisine incorporating Japanese elements, as well as Asian cuisine. The walk-in wine cellar houses 1,200 bottles of wine and sake. The hotel also features The Lounge by Aman, from which guests can enjoy views of Mount Fuji on clear days. A cigar lounge with a built-in humidor is also available. The ground floor also features The Café by Aman, where guests can enjoy modern continental cuisine and wine while overlooking the lush greenery of Otemachi Forest. The hotel also features the Aman Spa, a wellness facility that occupies two floors. Guests can enjoy a spa with eight treatment suites, a fitness gym, a yoga studio, a Pilates studio, and a heated panoramic pool. Prior to the hotel's opening, CEO Olivier Jolivet commented, "We will now offer the unique hospitality that Aman has inherited, such as the privacy, exclusivity, comfortable tranquility, and personalized service, in a major city." Meanwhile, majority shareholder Vladislav Doronin said, "Aman Tokyo is the next generation of Aman for affluent customers seeking an Aman property in a major city."
